This past week, I was preoccupied when I began taking my evening doses of insulin. Since I mix my R and N insulin, I switched placing the N first and then R, which of course was wrong. My question, what would have happen if I took this mixed solution?

(2) diabetes says:

Hi Pete,

It would depend on whether you drew up the right doses of insulin in the wrong order, or whether you drew up the insulin with the doses switched. N is long acting insulin and R is a shorter acting insulin, so if you switched the doses, you might inadvertently either drop your blood sugar too much or not lower it enough, depending on the dose that you drew up. If you merely switched the order of the insulins, and the doses are still right, it’s okay as far as your blood sugar is concerned.
