A comparison of the only two drugs in the class of thiazolidinediones, seems to project that pioglitazone (Actos) and rosiglitazone (Avandia) carry many of the same general precautions including a warning of "Cardiac Failure and Other Cardiac Effects". The difference seems to be that Avandia showed other cardiovascular adverse events such as cardiac arrest in addition to heart failure in studies, while Actos, appears to show no other cardiovascular adverse events other than increased incidence of heart failure.
Actos should still be prescribed cautiously and people who take Actos should be alert to signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure.
