Definition: Preprandial literally means "before a meal." For people with diabetes, it refers to blood glucose measurements taken before a meal. This is known as the preprandial blood glucose level. It is also known as the fasting blood glucose level. Keeping a record of preprandial blood sugars helps to track the effectiveness of prescribed diabetes medications and/or insulin regimen.
