The Inside Story... on Insulin Pumps

The Diabetes Forum is a place where you can get the inside story on anything and everything about coping with diabetes... from people who do. This week's hot topic is about insulin pumps. Insulin pumps are worn continuously and deliver a predetermined basal rate of short-acting insulin 24 hours a day. In addition to the basal rate, bolus doses of insulin can be given with a push of a button, before meals or at other times when extra doses are needed.
MsCara1, a forum member since 7/26/02 with 337 posts and counting, is considering using an insulin pump and started the thread, "Guess who's pumping up?" to ask advice of other forum members on different kinds of pumps...
OK, so after 30 years of "shooting up" I've decided it's time for me to "pump it up" (doesn't that make all of you think of some 90's dance hit? LOL!) I'm not in a big hurry, just want to get the thing before December. So, all my beloved pumpers let's hear a sales pitch for your pump.

Hi Cara...glad to hear you are going to get a pump. It will make a big difference in your diabetic life...I think. I have had mine over 4 years and would never go back to injecting. A needle doesn't enter my skin now except every 3 days...that's when I change my infusion set. A needle drives the tubing into your system...once the tubing is in one, the needle is taken out and disposed of. Actually I don't feel the needle at all. It's painless....for me, at least...
