Study: Alcohol May Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes

When I was young, I loved watching reruns of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. I was fascinated by their faithful cocktail hour. How many times had we seen Samantha carrying out an attractive tray of drinks to Darren and Mr. Tate?

It turns out they weren't just enjoying some slight tipsiness -- they could have been lowering their risk for Type 2 diabetes. The National Institute for Public Health and Environment with Dutch medical and science centers carried out a 10-year study of 35,000 adults ranging in age from 20 to 70, and focused on Type 2 diabetes.

The study found that women who have one glass per day and men who have up to two have a 40% less chance of developing Type 2 diabetes than those who don't drink at all.
