According to a press release, actor Dwayne Johnson joins Novo Nordisk, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), to encourage families to get active together as a means to help prevent diabetes. As an ambassador for the Diabetes Aware campaign, Johnson will appear in a public service announcement (PSA) to educate families about the prevalence of diabetes and the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle.
The campaign aims to reach the 24 million Americans who are living with diabetes, as well as the estimated 6.2 million Americans who are unaware that they have the disease, to underline the importance of detection, monitoring and proper management of diabetes.
“I’m honored to serve as an ambassador to the Diabetes Aware campaign, and I want to encourage families to be active and eat right,” says Johnson. “Small steps can go a long way in managing diabetes, its complications, and raising healthy, active children.”

Any opportunity to create awareness of this chronic
and possibly serious condition is welcomed, having a ‘celebrity’
may make some pay attention…thank you to the ‘Rock’and also to Novo Nordisk.
It is nice to see a fomous and well known person like The Rock letting people know teh dangers and ways to prevent diabetes. thumbs up hopefully people will listen because it is very real. I know I have type 2.
Is Dwayne “THE ROCK” Johnson a Diabetic?
I believe it is unfortunate that USA law does not allow any health professionals to advise clients that they can often return blood sugar to normal levels using herbs. If congress really wants to begin to cut costs, the one sure way is to allow people to learn of non-prescription alternative treatments. I was a Diabetic and took prescription drugs for 6 years for this and cholesterol. Now 32 years later and drug free with normal glucose, insulin and cholesterol ratios.
Does the Rock have diabetes? I think there is a misconception that only overweight people get type 2 – or pre-diabetes. This is simply not true.
Weight gain does increase risks but researchers are still unclear if other factors contribute to weight gain (i.e., insulin resistance, PCOS, etc.) that further increases the risk.
Either way, the Rock is good looking and kids seem to like him so hear hear to the new spokesrock!
I have been a diabetic for 36 years and I am also a big wrestling fan. It is great to see someone like Dwayne Johnson bring out awareness of this disease. Thank you Dwayne
