Endocrine Society Weighs in on Lantus Cancer Risk Study

Sunday July 5, 2009
The Endocrine Society has issued an article for patients on the recent Lantus study that showed an increase in cancers among Lantus insulin users. The society says that the German study is inconclusive at best considering four other recent studies did not show a correlation between Lantus and an increased risk of cancer.

The article reads, "The Endocrine Society and The Hormone Foundation, the public education affiliate of The Endocrine Society, recommend that patients continue with their current insulin therapy until they have discussed with their physicians the reasons why a particular insulin treatment was prescribed. In addition, patients with diabetes, like all other individuals, should make sure that they follow recommended procedures for screening and early detection of cancer, such as periodic mammography and colonoscopy, and they avoid actions that are known to be associated with cancer, such as smoking."

I find that ‘experts’ seem to want to help diseases to get worse since they make a hard to understand word so people get a lot of stuffie words so when you get a PHD and then you will work on doing something about it. A1C is NOT all this about Glucose like the ‘experts’ say it is, its really 3-4 months of average blood sugar with a complex way of finding out and now that I know, it is easier to respect what A1C is, not just an advertisement for Diabetic products. The jerks on FNC say people should spend more money on food and I am on food stamps and can’t afford the $$$$ prices and yet those without jobs can’t afford them, no one understands at all why people without work or food stamps buy less healthy foods, thats often all they can afford and I am not in the least happy many don’t have a clue. I am sure some just want bad health, but mostly because they can’t afford them, I was impressed how much lower the healthy salad things were at Wally World and I was very happy with this. I got a box of Oat cereal since I wanted to show the company I support the company for there standing up for the truth, but I got much more of the generic brands for health. It is NOT easy to eat healthy and I hope that some low income can get healthy by better priced healthy items, would be helping a lot. I respect companies who want to make money by lowering the prices of healthier foods since I go out of my way to share my gratitude about how they have helped me a lot.

I am reading that the Lantus/cancer connection is not conclusive… that part’s good… what I’m wanting to know, WHICH cancers appear to show a link. If it’s breast cancer, for instance, more vigilance is in order for breast exams.
