Reverse Diabetes Around the World... One Person at a Time

Wednesday December 31, 2008
Type 2 diabetes affects people in almost every country on this planet. Rates of diabetes are rising globally. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates there are almost 250 million people with diabetes worldwide.

With so many diverse lifestyles and cultures around the world, what are the factors that are leading to the rise in diabetes? Industrialization has played a huge role in the increase of diabetes. According to the IDF, the main reasons diabetes is on the rise are...

  • Aging population
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Overweight and obesity
  • A sedentary lifestyle
So, as diabetes spreads across the globe, the fight begins with each individual person.
  • Get enough exercise, at least 30 minutes, 5 times a week
  • Keep your weight as near to normal as possible
  • Try to eat a healthy diet, avoiding processed, sugar-laden, and fast foods; while increasing fiber, fresh vegetables and fruits, and lean meats and fish.

Didn’t see anything about reversing diabetes, just more of the same to control (hope it don’t get worse) it.

Would be nice if they were really working on a cure, but they would lose money if they did.

I have had type 2 diabetes for 28 years now. Was diagnosed during my 2nd pregnancy. I will be the first to admit that I have not done all that is necessary to take care of myself. I went through several years of out and out denial and refusing to follow doctors instructions. That led to the need to take insulin shots 4 times a day. Luckily, I do not have any kidney problems. I do have some mild vision changes and numbness and tingling of feet and toes. Anyway, 6 months ago, I put myself on a self improvement program. I follow my diet as I should, walk for 1 hour every day and take my meds and insulins as told. I have lost 30 lbs. and my hgA1c has gone from 9 to 6.5. I have been able to cut my insulin use (units per injection) in half. I still have about 50 lbs. to go. My hopes are that when my weight gets in normal range, and I continue the exercise, I may be able to just be diet controlled. Wouldn’t that be wonderful after 28 years!
