Cases of Diabetic Retinopathy Will Top 16 Million in 2050

Thursday December 11, 2008

According to a press release from JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), the number of cases of diabetic retinopathy diagnosed in the U.S. may rise to 16 million by the year 2050.

Currently there are 5.5 million Americans living with retinopathy. The main reason why the retinopathy rate is expected to increase is because cases of diabetes are also increasing at a rapid rate. Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes, and the leading cause of blindness in the United States. What can you do to protect your eyesight?
