Why is a Balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids Good for Us?

It seems like everywhere we look, headlines are shouting that omega-3 fatty acids are essential for our health and wellbeing. This might be so, but what the heck are they, and where can we get them?

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in some foods, such as cold water fish, and walnuts. They are important for health, but they are hard to find sometimes in the typical American diet. Our modern diet gives us too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3. This causes inflammation in the body. High levels of inflammation lead to vascular damage and insulin resistance. And this in turn may lead to metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

How do we get the right balance of fatty acids?
