Afraid to Inject Yourself? It's the Inside Story...

The Diabetes Forum is the place to go when you need support. Members of the forum are quick to offer advice, support and camaderie to people who have questions or concerns about managing their diabetes.

One of the major concerns people may have is about injecting insulin for the first time. Everyone who is on insulin has faced that first needle, the one that they had to inject themselves. It can be scary. Some people dread it or feel that they will never be able to do it.

New member, AnaCZ, came to the forum in search of guidance to help her over her fear of injecting herself with insulin.

AnaCZ writes, Just thinking about injecting myself brings a scream to my brain. How do you people do it? I know it is needed, I don't feel serious pain when my husband does it but I start shaking and can't get the needle in the skin. I realize it HAS TO BE DONE, but...read more.

Iamcarbokid replies, Don't sit around and think about injecting a needle....when the time comes around, load your syringe...and just do it! The longer you think about it, the scarier it gets...read more.

Chollalamb adds, You can do it!! I know you can. It won't hurt a bit. Just rest the tip of the needle on your skin for a bit. See!! It doesn't hurt. Ok, now apply a bit of pressure so it slides in. You can do this!!...read more.
