ADA to Change it's Stance on Low-Carb Eating

Thursday November 15, 2007

An article by About.com's Guide to Low Carb Diets, Laura Dolson, announces that the American Diabetes Association (ADA) will be coming out with a new set of guidelines for diabetes nutrition in January of 2008. The current recommendations state that a diabetic diet should consist of 55-65% carbohydrates, 25%-30% fats, and 11%-18% proteins.

What kind of adjustments will the ADA make to the carb/protein ratio? Although the actual guidelines are not published yet, there is mounting evidence that low carbohydrate diets can help people with diabetes control their blood glucose levels.
