The FDA's New Drug Safety Newsletter

Friday September 28, 2007

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is starting a quarterly online newsletter which provides up-to-date information for health care professionals on reviews of drugs already on the market, any developing drug safety issues, and newly approved drugs. The newsletter is called the Drug Safety Newsletter and the first issue is already online.

The FDA hopes that the newsletter will raise awareness about reported adverse events and also will encourage the reporting of adverse events to the FDA by health care professionals. Andrew C. von Eschenbach, M.D. Commissioner of Food and Drugs states in this first issue,

"We’re launching this publication to help health care professionals make better decisions about the medicines they use in their practice and stimulate their reporting of adverse events."
