Good Numbers At A Follow-Up Visit... It's the Inside Story

Wednesday August 8, 2007

The Diabetes Forum is a support system for people whose lives are touched by diabetes, either having the disease themselves or caring for someone who does. There are well over 100 members who stop in and touch base regularly. It's a great place to ask questions, get and give support and especially share the good moments.

This past week, "Minotaur", a member since 2005, submitted a post titled, "Woot! Woot! Doc was pleased with labs!" He had good news to tell about his endocrinologist visit...

"I saw the endo yesterday for a regular follow up. She was pleased with my blood work. Fasting b.g. was 106 but A1c was 5.7. Triglycerides came down from 355 to 210 (they still need to be below 150); LDL went down from 71 to 42 (range 5-40), total cholesterol is 181, down from 209; HDL is still low at 32 (range 40-59). I said it was the increased cardio exercise and weight loss (which she remarked about), not to mention the low carb diet.. A ways to go, but getting there."

"Sbbo", a member since 2003, was one of the many people who answered Minotaur's post.

"Hey there, congrats on your numbers! Do you mind me asking you what type of RX's you're on? (I have thyroid, diabetes and cholesterol problems too.) Kudos on your weight training and cardio.. it IS such a major component of good health... After 3.5 months of not working out (injured from car accident) that without my workouts, my glucose levels were seriously climbing. Now I'm almost 2 weeks back into it my weights/cardio and seeing my numbers come down. It's pretty exciting!"
