Calling All Divas! Makeover Your Diabetes!

Wednesday January 24, 2007

Diabetes affects almost 10 million women in the United States and the number is increasing. Divabetic events offer a place where women can learn to live more healthy lives. Learning to live a healthy lifestyle with diabetes can significantly reduce the risk of developing serious complications, such as heart disease, blindness, circulation problems, stroke, kidney failure, amputations, and nerve damage.

Divabetic is known as a "diabetes outreach organization" and the goal is to promote a positive attitude and help build esteem among people living with diabetes. Motivation, early detection and prevention are the cornerstones of the Divabetic organization.

What is a Divabetic Event? It's billed as a "Dazzling Diabetes Outreach Event for Women". It's a traveling road show of beauty, fashion and diabetes education all rolled into one glitzy celebration. Take advantage of free manicures and mini-massages, recipes, fitness advice, fashion shows and makeovers. But also enjoy the opportunity to talk one-on-one with certified diabetes educators and registered dietitians who can help you manage your diabetes more effectively. Join hundreds of women who have come for a "night out with the girls" and have also enriched their lives with information on living with diabetes and healthy lifestyle choices.

Teaching is a very important part of Divabetic's philosophy. Divabetic’s new "Denial’s Not My Style" Awareness Campaign is aimed at helping the estimated 3 million people in the U.S. who don't know that they have diabetes. "Denial's Not My Style" promotes a "living life right" attitude by promoting early diabetes screening and prevention.

Divabetic plans to come to a city near you. Right now, events are planned for New York City on February 22, 2007 and New Orleans on March 31st, 2007. Other cities that will host Divabetic this year include: Dallas, Los Angeles, Cleveland, and Washington D.C. Check the website for dates to be announced.
